Top 5 Reasons Opelika is One of the Best Places to Live In the U.S.A

Categories: Community Events, Opelika AL, Special Occasions, Things to Do | Posted: October 29, 2011 | Comments Off on Top 5 Reasons Opelika is One of the Best Places to Live In the U.S.A

According to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics, Lee County, Alabama is one of the most affordable places to live. As it turns out, Auburn or Opelika, AL new homes may be the best value. Here’s why:

1) Less than 29% of people in this area spend a third of their income on housing, leaving them more room to spend on improving and enjoying their quality of life. Experts say this is one of the essential life hacks to avoiding debt and living comfortably.

2) Even though most of the country is still recovering from a recession, Opelika’s unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the country standing at 8.3%. With more jobs in the area, Opelika, AL new homes may offer the best nearby employment options.

3 )Nearly a third of all residents in Opelika hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. As studies have shown, places with an educated populous not only support more local and corporate businesses with higher paying salaries, but communities with lower crime rates.

4) Opelika is home to the East Alabama Medical Center, a massive campus supporting many employees. For those of you who live in Opelika, AL new homes, the East Alabama Medical Center offers the area’s only level I trauma center in all of Lee County. Renowned for their outstanding Cardiology and Heart Surgery, East Alabama Medical Center also offers some of the best doctors and surgeons in the state.

5) Auburn University, the state’s largest employer, offers great education opportunities for local high school graduates, but it also hosts amazing employment options and a nationally recognized football team.

Decorate for Halloween

Categories: Auburn AL, Community Events, Holidays, Montgomery AL, Opelika AL, Special Occasions | Posted: October 24, 2011 | Comments Off on Decorate for Halloween

Fall is easily one of the coziest seasons of the year. The air is crisp, and so are the leaves. With Halloween approaching, celebrating autumn has never been easier. Here are some fantastic ways to make your LaGrange GA homes for sale frightfully spooky this Halloween!

Take an afternoon and pick out a few squash, dried Indian corn, and pumpkins. Squash make a fantastic table centerpiece, and Indian corn can help fall. When you go to pick up pumpkins, find a variety of sizes and colors. Instead of carving your pumpkins, you can paint them instead. Especially if you picked up some white pumpkins, you can paint faces on them to make them look simply ghostly.

When carving pumpkins, try to make yourself a paper stencil or template first and trace it onto your pumpkin. This way, when you’re cutting with a blade or exacto knife, you know exactly where you’ll be cutting. Be sure to mark which areas should be cut out and which must remain intact for very detailed designs.

Seasonal throw pillows are also an easy way to dress up your LaGrange GA homes for sale for Halloween. Buy or make yourself some felt pillows. Then, cut out some bats or other spooky designs and sew or glue them onto the pillows. If you want, you could instead glue Velcro on the backs of your designs and change them out for each season so you always have the perfect decorations out for each season!

Fall wreaths or garlands are also incredibly easy ways to spruce up your home for the season! Pick out felt in your favorite fall colors. Beautiful golden yellows, reds, and oranges, and cut them into different leaf shapes. Using twine and hay, you can weave yourself a colorful wreath or garland and then glue the “stems” of your leaves into the mix for a beautiful autumn spread. With protective spray, you can weatherproof the wreaths for outside use if you choose to hang them outside of your LaGrange GA homes for sale.

Pumpkin flesh can also be etched to give your pumpkin a luminescent look when it comes time to light a candle inside. As long as your pumpkin is properly vented to give the flame enough air and the flame isn’t burning the inside of the pumpkin, you can make pumpkin luminaries as well as jackolanterns.

Light It Up Blue – Shine a Light on Autism

Categories: Community Events | Posted: March 31, 2011 | Comments Off on Light It Up Blue – Shine a Light on Autism

On the evenings of April 1 and 2, 2011, prominent buildings across North America and the world — including the Empire State Building in New York City and the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada — will turn their lights blue to raise awareness for autism and to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday, April 2.

We’re aiming to light the world blue all throughout April — city by city, town by town — by taking action to raise autism awareness in our communities.

Did you know …
• Autism now affects 1 in 110 children and 1 in 70 boys
• Autism prevalence figures are growing
• More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined
• Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
• Autism costs the nation over $35 billion per year, a figure expected to significantly increase in the next decade
• Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
• Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism
• There is no medical detection or cure for autism
